Arts Center Exhibit Celebrates Humanity’s Diversity

Continuing a year-long theme of exploring the impact of art on Earth, the Arts Center of Yates County’s next exhibit, entitled “Big Blue Marble,” will explore the idea of “the family of man.”  The exhibit, which opens Friday, October 13thwith a free reception, features the work of a quartet of Rochester-area painters and a sculptor from Ithaca.  Each of the artists, coming from different backgrounds and different life experiences, use their art to convey their impressions, feelings and perspectives on the world around them.

A member of both the prestigious National Watercolor Society and the Watercolor USA Honor Society, Valerie Larsen’s work has appeared in five editions of Splash, a watercolor book. Her paintings portray the uniqueness of people and the things they do.  Genesee Valley Plein Air painter Kathy Bolinbegan painting after raising three sons.  In addition to painting plein air landscapes she also enjoys figurative and portrait work and seeks a connection with the viewer by eliciting an emotional response.  Livingston County artist Leslie Heen began painting after a career in fashion illustration, architectural renderings and modeling. She now enjoys expressing her contemporary impressions in watercolor and oil.  For Kevin Feary of Batavia conveying his feelings through paint on canvas has been a journey of many years.  A popular instructor and frequent participant in area art competitions, Kevin enjoys painting both landscapes and portrait/ figures. SculptorMarc Alan Freedman began his professional career working in wood, hand carving bowls and trays. His work has evolved into large often bent or steamed wood figurative pieces.

“Looking at the diversity of form from the perspective of these five fine area artists brings home how unique each person’s perspective truly is,” says exhibit co-chair Barbara Doyle.  Work from many of the Arts Center’s exhibiting artists will also be included in the show.

The Big Blue Marble – Family of Man exhibit opens Friday, October 13th from 5-7 pm at the Arts Center’s Flick Gallery, 127 Main Street in Penn Yan.  Weis Vineyards on Keuka Lake will offer wine tastings, an assortment of hearty hors d’oeuvres will be supplied and everyone will have an opportunity to meet and talk with the artists.  The event is free and open to the public.
