Howard is a graduate of the Institute of Design, Chicago. A school created out of the Bau Haus in Germany. He studied there under photographers Aaron Siskind, Harry Callahan and Frederick Sommer.
He was a studio photographer in Cleveland, Ohio from 1959 - 1962.
Photographer at Shigeta Wright Associates, Chicago from 1962-1964.
Owner/photographer LeVant Photography in Chicago, 1964 - 1978.
Clients included: United Airlines, Sara Lee, Gerber Baby Products, Kimberly-Clark Medical Products, Beltone, Visa/Bankamerica. And many more.
Howard came to Rochester in 1978 to teach advertising photography at RIT. Became a full professor teaching color, digital imaging 2nd year studio core course, advertising and business courses. He is now Professor Emeritus. He was also the food photographer for Wegmans for nine years.
IIT/ID has honored Howard by asking to archive his life's work.
Aside from continuing his personal work, Howard donates his photographic services to not-for-profit organizations.
